The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) is causing unprecedented disruption to public services, businesses and individuals across the country.
What this means for businesses in terms of business rates depends on numerous factors including your location within the UK and your business undertakings i.e. Hospitality, Retail, Leisure.
We understand that these times are particularly tough on small businesses and endeavour to help where we can by reducing your monthly outgoings where possible, be that business rates or utility bills.
The Government has published guidance for employees, employers and businesses, including a 12-month business rates holiday for certain sectors of businesses in England and Wales and a package of funding and loans. Further support has also been announced for certain small businesses previously outside the scope of the business grant funds scheme.
Leisure, Hospitality and some Retail premises have been granted a payment holiday until 1st April 2021 but will have to pay as normal after this date but as always your bill will increase from this date due to the national multiplier increasing year on year.
As this pandemic has negatively impacted most businesses trade in the UK there is grounds to appeal your rateable value on a ‘material change of circumstances’ claim, this means we will look at the impact that lockdown and other factors have had on your turnover and costs and apply for a reduction in Rateable Value for this period.
